Local Law Enforcement
Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then located multiple other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials report initial examinations indicate the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to its source; officials are currently not aware of any physical harm in association with the incident," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the community for information.
A senior official said the attack made him stunned and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on social media, recalling the killing of nine people by a shooter targeting people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
